Our Top 5 FAVE Ingredients

At Antidote Street, we not only curate and provide access to the best hair products, but we also remain committed to educating and informing you about #AllThingsHair. We’ve selected five of our favourite ingredients and are thrilled to tell you all about them!

5 (natural) hair product ingredients you should EMBRACE:

Aloe Vera is definitely one of the ingredients we love, since it seems to do it all. When applied to your hair it forms a clear, flexible film which traps water - and you know what that means! Hydration central. It is also chock-full of natural enzymes and fatty acids which destroy excess dead skin cells and fungus, fighting and preventing dandruff. We're not done yet! Aloe Vera also helps balance the pH level of your scalp and hair and also promotes hair growth and reduces breakage/thinning. It checks so many boxes, we just can't resist it!

You might be wondering - broccoli? Really?! Well we're here to tell you about the amazingness of Broccoli Seed Oil for hair care. It has a super-high concentration of Omega-9 fatty acids which let it mimic the effects of silicones i.e. it leaves a light film around the hair strands, giving hair amazing lustre and shine (making it an excellent sealing oil). But unlike man-made silicones it is easily and happily absorbed by your hair. Broccoli Seed Oil is also a powerful antioxidant, and it inhibits the hormones which cause hair loss. In our books, it's a superstar!

We're all pretty familiar with the benefits of Coconut Oil- it imparts shine, helps hair growth, seals moisture into the hair, provides anti-microbial protection for the scalp and can even reduce and prevent dandruff.

Castor Oil on the other hand is somewhat of an underdog and we're here to (once again) sing its praises! Castor Oil, like coconut oil, is an emollient which means that it holds moisture in the hair and it can greatly reduce split ends and dandruff. It is also rich in Vitamin E and has anti-fungal properties which can help you achieve optimal hair and scalp health.

Pro tip: rather than choosing between these two oils, look for products that feature them both!

No. 4 - HONEY

Honey is another natural humectant that we love as it draws a whole lot of moisture into the hair. Honey also contains enzymes and nutrients which boost shine and strengthen hair, plus it has antioxidant properties and so is great for scalp health. Of course, many of the products which use honey also smell amazing, about which we have zero complaints.

What do we love about Quinoa for hair care? Well, it's a high-performing vegan alternative to animal proteins. It does its duty as a protein by helping hair look smoother and feel silkier by filling cracks in the cuticle layer, and it also forms a protective barrier against environmental stresses. It seals and retains moisture into the hair, and provides important nutrients. Products with hydrolyzed quinoa also tend to be great for gentle detangling!
